Glasgow Warriors Impressive in Four-Try Win at Sale Sharks in Champions Cup First Round

Glasgow Warriors kicked off their European campaign in perfect fashion with a crucial four-try win on the road against Sale.

With the wind at their backs, Sale started the brighter and raced to a 14-0 lead within the first quarter. Scores from the Sale skipper and teenage debutant Ollie Davies gave them early control.

But, Glasgow responded well with two tries before the interval. Forward Gregor Hiddleston and flanker Darge both crossed to narrow the gap.

Additional after the break scores from Kyle Steyn and centurion Stafford McDowall pushed the Warriors' lead to 26-14. A late try for Sale set up a nervous finish, but Glasgow stood strong to secure a major opening win.

Glasgow Seize Initiative Following Interval

The match started with a bang as skipper Van Rhyn drove over from short distance after only two minutes. An early injury to centre Ma'asi-White brought teenager Davies into the fray for his cup debut.

Davies made an immediate impact. Switching to fly-half, he took a smart support line to collect an pass and touch down, making Sale's advantage.

Against challenging conditions, Glasgow turned to their forward power to get back into the game. A strong line-out drive was touched down by hooker Gregor Hiddleston. Prior to the half, Rory Darge forced his way over, with Adam Hastings' kick making it a narrow game at the interval.

The Scottish club seized the lead for the first time early in the second half. A misjudged box-kick was gathered by number eight Dempsey, who fed captain Kyle Steyn to break a challenge and sprint to the line.

With in the ascendancy, Glasgow secured the fourth try when McDowall powered past a defender to score his century for the team. This try completed a run of twenty-six unanswered points.

Sale gave themselves a lifeline when Marius Louw used good skills to score. The conversion made it a five-point game with minutes remaining.

One last opportunity arose for them from a line-out in the 22, but they lost the ball, sealing Glasgow's triumph.

Looking Ahead

Sale must bounce back ahead of a journey to face Clermont next Saturday. In contrast, Glasgow Warriors will host European giants Toulouse to Scotstoun.

Both sides are drawn in a competitive first pool that also features Saracens and Durban-based team the Hollywoodbets Sharks.
