Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is unclear and the American officials has not commented.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
