Lindsey Vonn Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in her last five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure.

With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She already possesses one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
