Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC

The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."

The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."

New Character and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser hinted.

In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".

The drama launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.

The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for further series.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
