New information has come to light concerning the untimely demises of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.
As detailed in an account quoting a family associate, a therapist scheduled for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after not being able to enter the residence. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by.
After gaining access to the residence, Romy discovered her father's body. It is said she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. A companion who had gone with her promptly called 911. Afterward, paramedics discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is now being held without bail.
The confidential informant also disputed several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the estate, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that moment.
The source also disputed widely reported notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes accounts of alleged "unstable" conduct by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the bodies were found. While the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they maintained that reports of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
As stated by law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports noted the condition of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was set to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
