The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a four games to three victory in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 October home runs, ranking him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I want up in that spot besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts this season.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.

The Blue Jays won the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
