This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
